UPDATE: SYSTEM ALERT NOTICE LIFTED

Monday 15 January 2024

18:35: Update

The System Alert (Amber Alert) notice issued to the electricity market at 17:00 has been lifted. The alert was issued due to low wind and cold weather driving higher demand. The alert meant that the buffer between the demand for electricity and the available supply was smaller than optimum. It did not indicate a loss of electricity supply to customers. The margins have now been restored.

16:45: The electricity system is experiencing tight margins. A System Alert (Amber Alert) notice has been issued to the electricity market due to low wind and cold weather driving high demand

The alert means that the buffer between the demand for electricity and the available supply is currently smaller than optimum. It does not indicate a loss of electricity supply to customers.

We are working with all conventional generators and demand-side resources to maximise their availability to the grid.

The System Alert is expected to remain in place from 17:00 until 18:30 tonight.
