SONI is the Independent Transmission System Operator for Northern Ireland. We ensure that Northern Ireland has a secure, reliable and cost-effective supply of electricity. We provide a critical service to customers, communities and the economy.

SONI has been part of the EirGrid Group of companies since 2009. SONI also operates the all-island wholesale electricity market with EirGrid through the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) which has operated successfully since November 2007.

It has delivered an efficient, competitive market for customers in Northern Ireland while assuring security of supply and integrating significant volumes of renewable electricity into the generation mix.

We note the Call for Evidence and will engage with the Utility Regulator in this process.

Our priority, as always, is to maintain a secure supply of electricity to homes and businesses across Northern Ireland at the least possible cost to consumers.
