West Dublin

EirGrid has identified a need to reinforce the electricity network in west Dublin. This is in response to a significant local increase in the demand for electricity.

Why is this project needed?

EirGrid has identified a need to reinforce the electricity network in west Dublin. This is in response to a significant local increase in the demand for electricity. This increase is associated with major multinational customers at Grange Castle Business Park.

To meet this increased demand, we're planning a new electricity substation and associated connections. The type of substation we propose to add is a 220/110 kV gas insulated switchgear station.

We propose to locate this substation in the area of the Grange Castle Business Park. We will then connect it to an existing 220 kV double-circuit overhead line. This line runs from Inchicore to Maynooth.

What are the benefits of this project?

This improved infrastructure will meet current demand for electricity in the area. But it will also create the potential for future growth, as the power supply will be more secure and have greater capacity.
