SONI is the Electricity System Operator for Northern Ireland. We ensure that Northern Ireland has a secure, reliable and cost-effective supply of electricity. We provide a critical service to consumers, communities and to the economy.
SONI has received the draft determination from the Utility Regulator in relation to our Price Control, which establishes our funding for the period 2020-25. It is published here.
This marks the beginning of a period of consultation until 5pm on the 14th of September 2020. Submissions should be made to the Utility Regulator by emailing SONIUREGNI@uregni.gov.uk.
We are now taking time to assess the draft determination in detail, while also preparing our response to the consultation.
Our Business Plan submission for the 2020-25 period reflects the enormity of the challenge facing SONI as we navigate the unprecedented change underway in the energy industry.
Our proposals will enable us to meet this challenge, in particular in implementing future energy policy; supporting the delivery of future energy targets; and in doubling the amount of renewable energy on the grid, which will be a necessity if Northern Ireland is to meet its Net Zero Commitments.
Achieving the best possible outcome so that we can continue to deliver effectively and efficiently for the Northern Ireland consumer is a priority, while also ensuring that we can respond to the climate emergency by transforming the power system for future generations.
