Today, 19 October 2021, the High Court in Belfast has upheld Planning Approvals for the North South Interconnector project:
Speaking on behalf of SONI, Natasha Sayee said:
“SONI welcomes the decision to uphold the planning approvals for the North South Interconnector. We will continue our engagement with landowners and communities.
The North South Interconnector will be a key enabler for economic growth as part of a green recovery. It will create local construction jobs through its delivery programme, it will help reduce the cost of electricity and it will also provide a route to market for renewable energy, positioning Northern Ireland as a prime exporter of clean energy.
The project will also be crucial for the delivery of Stormont’s ambition of at least 70% electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
The North South Interconnector is one of the key safeguards Northern Ireland needs to provide long term security of supply. It will give local businesses and foreign investors certainty that Northern Ireland offers them a clean, efficient and reliable electricity supply.”
