SONI Awarded Diversity Mark Accreditation

Northern Ireland’s electricity Transmission System Operator, SONI has been awarded the Diversity Mark Accreditation, recognising the organisation’s progress in advancing equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the workplace.

The accreditation, granted by Diversity Mark, is awarded to organisations demonstrating measurable progress in developing and sustaining an inclusive culture, with a focus on areas such as gender, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQ+ inclusion and age.

The organisation has introduced a number of new initiatives, including: 

  • The Circuit – an internal women’s networking group
  • Enhanced family leave
  • Supporting the SistersIN mentoring programme
  • Outreach programmes with schools and universities to highlight opportunities for women in STEM
  • Wellbeing days to support employee health and wellbeing
  • Provision of free period products onsite

Commenting on the achievement, Alan Campbell, CEO of SONI, said:
“Achieving the Diversity Mark Accreditation is an important milestone for SONI. It reflects the work, commitment and collaboration of our entire team.  We know there is still more to be done, but achieving the Diversity Mark shows our commitment to being a diverse and inclusive organisation where everyone feels valued and included.”

Caroline Ashe, HR Business Partner at SONI, added:
“We are very proud to achieve the Diversity Mark Accreditation. It is an important step in our journey and validates the progress we’ve made. We work hard to ensure that our policies, culture and practices promote respect, inclusivity and collaboration and we look forward to further building on this accreditation in the years ahead. 

Christine White, Director at Diversity Mark said: 

“We are delighted that SONI has achieved Diversity Mark Accreditation. Their commitment to continuous improvement and focus on gender has been recognised by our team of Independent Assessors. We will continue to support SONI as they continuity to action their diversity and inclusion goals within their workplace in the coming years.” 

SONI has also committed to continuous review of its policies and processes, transparent reporting and ongoing employee engagement to ensure progress is sustained.
