Competition update

The application form submission deadline has now closed. The specifications for the prototype submission and further information can be found in the extra information document. If you have any questions please contact Research@soni.ltd.uk.

What is CleanerGrid?

CleanerGrid is a competition for third level students to use data from SONI's Smart Grid Dashboard and/or from the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) website to create a digital prototype of a website, application or dashboard that will encourage citizens to be more mindful of their energy use at times of peak demand and encourage them to flexibly adapt their electricity use. Once you submit your application form you’ll then receive all the information you need to get your project started!

Benefits for students

Alongside the prize money, the competition will allow you to showcase your ability to work in a team and to innovate, utilising real data from the all-island power system available on the SONI website.

The winners of the competition will get the opportunity to present their concept to industry experts, with the chance for your project to be featured on soni.ltd.uk.

How

  • Sign up to the challenge as part of a team (maximum six members)
  • Complete the application form which can be found here
  • Additional information can be found here
  • Access data on the Smart Grid dashboard and also through the Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) website

  • Submit your entry

The top three teams will be selected and invited to present their solution in front of the judging panel at the award ceremony.
