Consultation now live: SONI & NIE Networks Joint Digitalisation Strategy
SONI and NIE Networks have developed a draft Joint Digitalisation Strategy, setting out a shared direction for how digital, data and technology will support the safe and reliable operation of Northern Ireland’s electricity system, now and into the future.
The draft strategy describes a joint vision, guiding principles and four shared digital themes. It also sets out the outcomes both organisations aim to deliver together.
The strategy is intended to help SONI and NIE Networks align their plans where responsibilities meet, while continuing to deliver their respective statutory duties through their own strategies and programmes.
We are now inviting views through a public consultation, to help ensure the strategy is clear, relevant and focused on the outcomes that matter most for people and communities across Northern Ireland.
The consultation is open from Monday 11 May 2026 and will close at 5.00pm on 22 June 2026.
SONI and NIE Networks invite interested parties to respond to this consultation. Responses can be submitted via the SONI Consultation Portal, or by email to jointdigitalisationstrategy@nienetworks.co.uk
In particular, we welcome feedback on:
- The overall strategic direction and guiding principles
- Clarity of joint purpose – is it clear what SONI and NIE Networks are seeking to achieve together?
- The proposed themes – are they clear, relevant and meaningful for customers and stakeholders?
- The level of ambition and overall direction of travel
- What success would look like for stakeholders in practice
- Whether the strategy demonstrates clear value for consumers, communities and the wider public, including improved information, coordination and transparency
